Bohs U16s travelled across town today to take on a very good Championship side in Cregmore/Claregalway in the U16 Connacht Cup.
The tie that was always going to be a test for Bohs, who are newly promoted to the division behind their hosts but it started with both sides very much matched in quality and work rate on the pitch.
As the game passed the midway point in the opening half, Cregmore hit the front, which seemed to push Bohs on and saw them playing excellent football in search of an equaliser.
It was Cregmore however who scored again as we approached half time, a goal the Bohs rear guard will be disappointed in conceding.
Credit to our lads though, they battled and as the 1st half came to an end, Anthony Joyce pounced in the box to get on the end of a goalmouth scramble to leave it at 2-1 at the break.
The second half was again well matched until Bohs were extremely unfortunate to have centre half, Rhys Smyth down injured as the hosts slipped through to make it 3-1.
As it was a cup tie, Bohs gambled with adding more attacking players but the home side kept it tight at the back and added some late goals to run out comfortable winners in the end at 6-1.
Whilst Bohs will be disappointed in the second half, the opening 40 minutes was proof they can compete with any opposition.
We now move onto the Connacht Shield and focus on the next game, a league fixture in Athenry.
