Galway Bohs 5 Salthill Devon 2
A day to remember up in Drom today for our U18 squad who defied all the odds when grasping victory from the jaws of defeat in their League Cup fixture against Salthill Devon in their own backyard. An even enough first half saw both sides go in 1-1 at the break thanks to a Salthill wonder strike and a brilliant Bohs team goal that started off with Adam Mulhaire and was finished off in great style by Steven Soe Paing.
A cagey enough second half with both defences on top saw Salthill take the lead with 25 minutes to go. Bohs were reduced to 10 men and looked in trouble as the clock ticked towards 90 minutes only for Daviti Tsikarishvili to step up with a clinical strike in the last minute to send the game to extra time.
Despite only having 10 men, Bohs dominated extra time and showed great character with the Georgian Galactico himself adding two more superb goals to make it 4-2, while Captain Fantastic Finn McCarthy fittingly sealed victory with a wonder strike from distance to send the Bohs Ultras home happy.
Daviti, the hat-trick hero, obviously deserves plenty of plaudits for his influence but the backbone of the win was cemented by rock solid performers at the back like Aaran Keane and Aaron McDonough. Behind them, Adam Mulhaire had one of his best games between the sticks for Bohs with his teammates having the Newcastle Netminder to thank for a couple of wonder saves when the game was still in the balance.
It was great to see club legend Arbi back from Limerick to support the lads and the three u17s, Ronan Lynch, Sanan Jan and Noah Rafferty showed the future is bright for Bohs with an assured display in the latter stages to get the result over the line.
Fair play to all the squad who dug deep against all the odds to record a very satisfying win in a fiery local derby and it was a proper Christmas Cracker of a game that will live long in the memory ⚽🔴⚪⚽
