FAI Mrs Browns Boys Heart Care Programme
The club secured a new defibrillator unit through the Mrs Browns Boys FAI Heart Care Programme in January 2023. Jaycob Curran received the defibrillator from FAI RDO Emer Flately. Jaycob is merely weeks away from returning to the pitch and the Club is so inspired by his resilience and determination to get back playing the game. Also present were the main sponsors MKO Planning and Environmental Consultants represented by Mairead Keville, Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh Principal Dairiona Nic Coniomaire, Club Chairman Anthony Trill and Jaycobs Coach Gavin Greaney. We are so grateful to MKO and the Keville family for their extremely generous contribution towards this lifesaving equipment.
Due to all the ridiculous vandalism we experience in Millars Lane, the defib will be stored on the grounds of the Gaelscoil which is used for the Galway Bohmites Academy and is adjacent to the Bohs pitch at Millars Lane. This defibrillator will be available for use by Club members, the Gaelscoil and members of the public in cases or emergency.
The local branch of Harvey Norman also helped to raise funds for the Defib and First Aid training through a cake sale and in-store collection as well as attending the table quiz in Sheridan's to get the project over the line. This is a proud day for the Club as yet another symbol of our community link and commitment to the health and welfare of all our members.
FAI Club Mark One Star Club
The Club Mark award is an award based on best practice in the governance, management and administration of a football club.
In June 2022, we became the first club in Galway City to achieve the FAI One Star Club Mark award. It follows on from previously obtaining the entry level award in 2021. A lot of hard work was done behind the scenes to qualify for this and involved implementing a lot of policies and procedures which have benefited the club greatly.
FRENCH TRIP 2022 - LORIENT
The Club went on our first oversees trip in decades. Mike Cubbard and Anthony Trill were the driving force behind the trip. The trip was organised as part of cultural trip between Galway and Lorient. We were hosted by Ligue 1 Lorient FC and local club Vigilante de Keryado. It was an action packed weekend where the lads played Vigilante in a number of friendlies and visited Lorient FC at training. The players got to visit the beautiful town of Lorient before a civic reception to mark the beginning of the cultural link.
